Our Pop Culture Panel looks at the twists and turns of an emotional viral video, a law targeting zombie texters, Christmas marketing and holiday trends.

  • Within days, the video of a tearful Keaton Jones went from being the one of the most championed posts online to the most criticized.Looking into the internet accounts, apparently linked to the family, users found photos of Kimberly Jones posing with confederate flags. The discussion quickly became less about the prevalence of bullying, and more about the personas we present online.
  • Honolulu was the first major American city to enact legislation banning the use of cell phones and like devices at intersections and sidewalks earlier this year. Now, Toronto is considering a similar ban dubbed the “zombie law.” Should local governments make an effort to control such glassy-eyed, thumb-typing, slow-shuffling pedestrians?
  • WestJet is only one company of many releasing holiday promos this season, as it does every year. So we asked our panelists: are these commercials meant only to tug on our heartstrings?
  • Plus, first, it was the upside down Christmas tree. Now, a holiday-themed make-up trend is raising brows. Which are you: a holiday traditionalist, or trendsetter?
