Regional airlines across Canada are bracing for an already difficult pilot shortage to get worse.
The Canadian Council for Aviation and Aerospace estimates a shortage of thousands of pilots in the next decade, along with other professions within the industry including maintenance workers and inspectors. The cause is due to retirements and an increase in air travel in Canada.
Regional carriers say the larger airlines are poaching their pilots, leaving them short staffed and putting their businesses at risk.
As a result of the shortage, air passengers could soon see the ripple effect, including fewer flights and higher fares.
