There are many barriers to accessing quality mental health care.  From wait times to cost and even return visits, traditional therapy is often out of reach for many people.  Momentum Walk-in Counselling in Edmonton is working to change that and to make support more available.  Shawna spoke with Registered Psychologist Kimberly Knull, Momentum’s Executive Director and co-founder. Kim says their method makes the client the expert.  Momentum provides single-session, solution-focused therapy in a 90 minute appointment.  After the session, the team of therapists consults and makes a plan that they share with the client.  30% of the clients don’t end up needing anything else.  When ongoing counselling is needed, it is also provided, or referred to outside resources.  The goal is to provide care and make the process more efficient for people’s time and money.  In May, Momentum is hosting their first annual Momentum Mental Health Awards, showcasing and elevating the great work that is happening around Edmonton and serving as an annual fundraiser for the charity.  Nominations are being accepted until April 1, 2018.
