When someone is struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, it can have a huge ripple effect on their friends and family. For any kids involved, it can be hard to explain the complex disorder and help them understand what is happening.

In 2009, the Individual Success Through Empowering Peers (iSTEP) program was introduced at Edmonton Garrison. It is designed for children and youth who have a parent suffering from PTSD. iSTEP supplies children with coping tools, helps them to know they’re not alone and allows them to walk away knowing PTSD is not their fault.

The program is available at Edmonton Garrison as an after-school program or a summer camp. It is expanding to bases across Canada.
