The Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton will host the second annual YEG’s Best Athlete on March 2.

The multidisciplinary sports competition tests young athletes between the ages of 6 and 12 in a variety of sports: fitness and gymnastics, skating, hockey, squash, swimming, tennis and badminton. The winners earn gold and a $1,000 RESP.

The goal of the event is to promote kids playing a variety of sports rather than just one.

Research suggests encouraging kids to be multidisciplinary athletes allows them to be more well-rounded high performing athletes later on.
