LOF Defence Systems in Edmonton has been producing canine harnesses for police dogs for years, but after Police Service Dog Quanto with the Edmonton Police Service was killed on the job in 2013 it hit home with staff at the company.
They decided to revolutionize armoured vests for dogs. They found one of the problems with traditional armoured vests is that they’re too heavy to wear for an extended period of time and restrict a dog’s movement.
They set to work designing an armoured K9 vest that weighs about half the size of a traditional vest, while still protecting the the dog. The end product, the StreetFighter, is garnering lots of attention from police forces around the world for its practical protection solution.
