Kurt Oatway grew up skiing on hills across Alberta until he took a break from the sport when he was 16. During a trip to Utah with the University of Saskatchewan in 2007, Kurt fell and suffered a severe spinal cord injury.
While watching the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, Kurt was inspired to take up sit-skiing. It allowed him to reconnect with a big part of his childhood. He competed for Canada in the 2014 Paralympics in Sochi where he finished 5th in the downhill event.
Kurt cracked the roster for the 2018 Canadian Paralympic team and has the goal of winning a gold medal in South Korea.
