Rates of Lyme disease are on the rise in Canada. The Public Health Agency of Canada reported 992 confirmed cases in 2016, an increase from 144 cases in 2009. Despite the national increase Alberta Health reports just 87 confirmed cases of Lyme disease in the province dating back to 1992. As some patients fight to have their disease recognized, other doctors say misdiagnosis is resulting in unnecessary treatment. What is the risk of contracting Lyme in Alberta?
