Should Albertans get tested early for signs of prostate cancer? Over 2,000 Albertans are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year. Advocates and survivors of the disease continue to encourage men to get properly tested before it’s too late. However, research done by the Canadian Task Force on Preventative Health suggests that harms of PSA screenings, the blood test commonly used to detect prostate cancer can in fact outweigh its benefits.
