Cultural diversity and free access to health care; they’re things Canada is recognized for, but combined, represent an industry-wide problem.

Available data shows Canada’s medical field lacks diversity in its classrooms, working sphere, and leadership, with a majority of professionals identifying as Caucasian and male. The most underrepresented groups are those of Aboriginal, African, and Caribbean descent.

We discuss this lack of diversity, and its impact, with Dr. Kris Salumbides, the co-founder of Edmonton’s first Filipino clinic, Medicus Family Health Clinic and Pharmacy, and Dr. Geneviève Moineau, CEO and president of the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada.
