Carmen Sims is living with a genetic bone disorder called Osteogenesis Imperfecta, also known as Brittle Bone Disease. The family’s journey began immediately when Carmen was born, including searching out more information about this rare condition and pushing for new treatments and opportunities. They discovered a groundbreaking treatment that was available at the Montreal Shriners’ Hospital and travelled there to try it out. The results were amazing and Carmen grew stronger and stronger. Her mother Mary-Lou is certain that without those treatments, Carmen would not have survived. Now 23, Carmen is raising money for the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation and the Shriners Hospital with her business, Jewelry by Carmy. And she’s sharing her story to help inspire others stay hopeful and never give up.
