Out Primetime This Week Panel take an in-depth look at Jason Kenney's byelection landslide, UCP house leader in hot water, major issues revealed in review of boxer's death and ugly Christmas sweaters.

  • UCP leader Jason Kenney now has a seat in the legislature after he captured more than 70 percent of the votes in a byelection in Calgary-Lougheed. With 71 percent of the vote, Kenney more than doubled the other six candidates running, including Alberta Liberal Party leader David Khan.
  • UCP house leader Jason Nixon admits he should’ve done a better job defending a former employee who came forward to his company claiming sexual harassment on a job site in BC a decade ago. After she complained Nixon tried to find her work. When he couldn’t he fired her. Premier Rachel Notley says if Nixon was in her caucus, she would have kicked him out. UCP leader Jason Kenney stands behind Nixon.Nixon has been arguing against parts of Bill 30, which would make workplace harassment policies mandatory.
  • A third-party review by MNP into the death of Edmonton boxer Tim Hague in June found issues within the Edmonton Combative Sports Commission. ECSC failed to follow one of its key policies regarding medical suspensions. MNP found Hague should have been suspended longer than he was prior to the June fight due to the number of times he had been knocked out in boxing and MMA matches in the previous nine months. The review, however, interpreted that Hague was eligible to compete given the uncertainty of which suspensions should apply when a fighter competed in both sports.
  • Plus, Christmas sweaters are popular festive attire for this time of year, but a new survey suggests many of the outfits don’t make it to the next holiday season.New research by an environmental charity Hubbub in the UK found many of the novelty sweaters will only be worn once. One in three people under the age of 35 will buy a new Christmas sweater every year. The charity is urging people to re-wear last year’s sweaters or swap them with someone else to reduce waste. It’s estimated people in the UK will spent about $400 million (CAD) on novelty sweaters in the lead up to next Christmas.
