Mental health, survival, and connection are just some of the reasons why youth seek out the support of gangs. In 2013, a group of agencies came together to wrap those at-risk youth with the supports they needed before it was too late. Over five years the Native Counselling Services of Alberta, John Howard Society of Edmonton, Africa Centre, YOUCAN Youth Service, REACH Edmonton and the Edmonton Police Service worked with 183 youth at-risk of joining at gang. By September 2019 the WrapED program will officially come to an end as agencies involved continue to work to secure future funding of the program.
