Efforts are underway to rejuvenate ancestral birth knowledge and practices in Alberta.

At the heart of these efforts is the training of full spectrum indigenous doulas to bring back traditional reproductive health and pregnancy assistance to indigenous communities.

The training includes, but is not limited to: menstruation, birth and early post-partum, loss and miscarriage, child welfare and adoption, gender and sexuality, survivors of violence, sexually transmitted infections, and substance use.

The goal is not to make anyone an expert, but to create a framework and an awareness on how to offer appropriate support.
