What started as a mission to make one million people smile has turned into a unique partnership and multifaceted effort to improve the lives of Calgarians. Akeam Francis, known as the Calgary Helper and founder of the SMILE GANG, and Kathleen Gilhooly, pastor of the King of Glory and Cornerstone Christian Assembly, are just two behind the Smile Shop—an opportunity every Saturday to shop and lunch for free. But while the Smile Shop’s greatest impact is on its community, it’s also an opportunity for Francis to redress the mistakes he’s made in the past. To volunteer at or donate to the Smile Shop, contact its organizers through its website or Facebook.
