Lawrence Solomon is a  Financial Post columnist and Executive Director at Energy Probe Research Foundation. Historically, that organization has advocated in favour of cyclists and their desire to be active in a safe and easy way, but in a recent opinion editorial, Solomon says the implementation of bike infrastructure was the turning point that took cycling from a carefree way to be active and environmentally conscious, to a detriment to cities.

The new bike grid in Edmonton followers the lead of one made permanent last December in Calgary. They’ve had mixed feedback from the downtown communities, some business owners complain of scarce parking, others praise the grid for bringing more people and more business to the area.
