Wally Ursuliak of Morinville is a curling legend in Alberta and around the world. He’s a Brier champion, internationally-renowned coach and credited with introducing Japan to the sport of curling in the 1980s.

In 2017, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays Medal by the Consulate-General of Japan in Calgary, in recognition of his many contributions to the sport.

Wally speaks very fondly of his time in Hokkaido and the people he met there. He says the credit for growing the sport is shared with people in Alberta and Japan, and a shared passion for the sport he loves so much.

He says the best part of curling is the friendships you make. Every game involves four new friends, and the curling rink is a welcoming place for all.
