Our weekly Politics Panel takes an in-depth look at the Jason Kenny's landside byelection victory in Calgary, the future of electronic ballot counters in the province and the Alberta Party's first leadership candidate.

Many predicted a Jason Kenney victory in last Thursday’s Calgary-Lougheed byelection, and it ended up being a landslide. The UCP leader captured nearly 72 per cent of the votes cast. The NDP was the best of the rest, but a distant second with only 17 per cent. And a single digit result for Liberal Leader David Khan who collected 9 per cent of the vote. Our Politics Panel assesses the outcome and what it says about the conservative movement in Alberta.

An aspect of the Calgary-Lougheed byelection that's not typically been discussed is the test run of electronic ballot counters. Our Politics Panel looks at why they likely won’t be implemented in time for the 2019 general election.

Plus, after more than a month of crickets, the Alberta Party finally has at least one leadership candidate to crow about. Calgary energy lawyer Kara Levis is the first to step forward.
