One of Canada's highest military honours, the Medal of Military Valour, was awarded to Captain Ashley Collette in 2012.

She joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 2007. In 2010, Captain Collette was deployed to Afghanistan where she led a platoon of soliders through intense combat. She also had to deal with casualties on her team.

She was the first woman to receive the prestigious honour and while she's changed her trade to social work, she hopes to explore post traumatic growth in the military while sharing her passion for yoga.
