In the spring of 2016 the Government of Alberta announced that rates of both gonorrhea and syphilis jad reached outbreak levels, and those rates have continued to rise.

2016 saw 3,700 cases of gonorrhea in the province and by October 31 of 2017, that number has already passed last year’s with 3,869 confirmed cases.

This year, six cases of congenital syphilis, 3 confirmed and 3 suspected, were found in new borns. Before this year, Alberta hadn’t seen a case of congenital syphilis in six years.
